Course Curriculum & Core Disciplines

Dynamic Movement & Combat Marksmanship

• Shooting on the Move: Master the mechanics of forward, lateral, and retrograding movement while maintaining a stable sight picture and precise shot placement.

• Combat Handgun Mechanics: Shift from textbook target shooting to rapid threat indexing, recoil management, and body-armor-defeat strings under tight time constraints.

Barrier Integration & Urban Tactics

• Barricade & Wall Drills: Learn structural geometry to safely work around vehicles, pillars, and walls, optimizing protection while maximizing down-range target visibility.

• Cover vs. Concealment: Program your instincts to immediately distinguish between materials that stop bullets and materials that only hide your signature.

Close Quarters & Tactical Teamwork

• CQB Room Clearing: Understand basic architectural geometry, single-officer and two-officer entry methods, corner domination, and threshold evaluation.

• Contact & Cover (Counter-Ambush): Train in lethal-threat partner communication, positioning, sectors of fire, and immediate action drills to break a sudden ambush.

Weapons Manipulations Under Stress

• Tactical & Emergency Reloads: Build unconscious muscle memory for proactive ammo management (reloads with retention) and lightning-fast dry-gun emergency reloads.

• Weapon Malfunction Clearing: Diagnose and clear complex stoppages instantly using single-handed and non-dominant hand manipulations.

Post-Engagement Process

• Threat Assessment & Tactical Pause: Break the tunnel vision of an engagement. Train to execute a disciplined, 360-degree tactical scan to check for secondary shooters, bystanders, and structural hazards.

Course Prerequisites

This is an advanced, physically demanding course. To enroll, students must meet the following criteria:

• Must possess a current, valid Arizona DPS Armed Security Guard Card (or proof of completion of the 16-hour state-standard course).

• Demonstration of safe, competent holster drawings and basic weapon safety rules on day one (unprepared students will be removed for safety).

Required Gear & Equipment

• Duty-grade semi-automatic handgun with a minimum of 3 magazines.

• Duty belt with a rigid, Level II or Level III retention holster (No soft nylon or generic holsters).

• Dual magazine pouches.

• 250 rounds of factory-fresh duty or training ammunition.

• Body armor/duty vest (highly recommended as you will be training in patrol configurations).

• Eye and electronic ear protection.

• Hydration system/cooler with plenty of water/electrolyte drinks and snacks.
